Bob Rozaieski - Cabinetmaker

I have been building furniture as a hobby for the past 18 years. I am mostly self-taught, learning primarily from books on tools, furniture and furniture making, with an emphasis on 18th and 19th century tools, techniques and furniture styles. I love to read and consequently, most of my knowledge of the craft has come from a combination of my research and hands on time spent in the shop with tool in hand.

In 2005, my family and I moved to Logan Township in Gloucester County, New Jersey. In 2007, we finally completed the long renovation of our house and the Logan Cabinet Shoppe was born.

For the past 10 years, I have done all of my work using only hand tools. Working this way allows me to really engross myself in building every piece and to focus on the small details that often go overlooked when using machines. It's also just plain fun. In addition, exclusively using tools similar to those that would have been used to build original period pieces allows me to produce furniture with the features, surfaces, and even tool marks reminiscent of 250 year old antiques. These details are important indicators of a truly hand crafted piece and in my opinion, give hand made furniture a certain character that simply cannot be duplicated with machines.

In addition to working by hand, I enjoy the process of designing pieces based on historical principles of proportion and form. Studying texts about period furniture and viewing examples of pieces in museum collections has had a great influence on how I work and the style of the pieces that I design and build. While I personally design each piece that I build, I use features and details of period examples that I find visually appealing to guide my design choices. This gives my pieces the feel of an antique piece without being an exact reproduction of one. I love a new challenge and I make it a personal goal to try and learn something new with each and every piece of furniture that I build.
